Crowell & Moring’s Jenny Cieplak and Ilana Lubin Recognized as Winners of The M&A Advisor’s 8th Annual "Emerging Leaders Award"

Washington – July 14, 2017: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that counsel Jenny E. Cieplak and Ilana Lubin have been recognized as “Emerging Leaders” by The M&A Advisor. The award recognizes professionals under the age of 40 who have reached a significant level of success in deal-making, restructuring, and financing, and have made notable contributions to their industry and community. Cieplak and Lubin were selected by an independent panel of judges.

Cieplak, a Washington-based counsel in the firm’s Corporate Group, helps lead the firm’s blockchain and distributed ledger technology initiative. Her practice primarily involves mergers and acquisitions, complex joint ventures, consortiums and strategic alliances, venture capital and private equity investments, and corporate finance. Cieplak is also experienced in drafting a wide-range of commercial agreements, including intellectual property licenses and commercial distribution agreements.

While Cieplak has advised clients in a wide range of business sectors, her practice focuses on FinTech and the financial services industry, including participants in and vendors to that industry. Her experience includes work on the creation, governance and sale of electronic trading platforms, exchanges, swap execution facilities, clearinghouses, and data repositories. Cieplak also advises clients on commodities law, particularly in relation to regulation of swap dealers, major swap participants, and swap transactions generally. In particular, Cieplak counsels clients on the implementation of new technologies such as blockchain and distributed ledgers, and the development of innovative products such as virtual currencies and blockchain-based assets.

Lubin, a New York-based counsel in the firm’s Corporate Group, frequently represents clients in the apparel, fashion, retail, luxury, and beauty sectors regarding cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and private equity investments. She also routinely drafts and negotiates intellectual property licensing and other general corporate and commercial transactions, and she has experience working in-house across business units, including in connection with global merger and acquisition and licensing activity. Lubin’s background includes the representation of a variety of companies from inception, including advisement with respect to matters relating to formation and structuring, equity and debt financing, employment, and commercial leasing.

The winners will be recognized at a gala in New York on September 19. To view the complete list of this year Emerging Leaders Award Winners, click here. The M&A Advisor is a global think tank and leadership organization for M&A, restructuring, and corporate finance professionals.
