Crowell & Moring Named To BTI’s "Masters Of The Deal" Corporate Elite

Washington, D.C. November 8, 2007 – Crowell & Moring LLP has been ranked among the top 16 law firms in the United States for corporate transactions in the inaugural BTI Consulting Group’s “Masters of the Deal” report. As the only Washington, D.C.-based law firm to make the list, Crowell & Moring ranked 11th in a poll taken of in-house counsel who rated law firm performance in a dozen key areas that drive the relationship between corporate counsel and their law firms. The survey was conducted through more than 150 independent interviews with corporate counsel responsible for transactions at Fortune 1000 companies with more than $1 billion in revenue.

Additionally, James R. Stuart, III, chair of Crowell & Moring's Corporate Group, and partner Arthur N. Lerner, who focuses on antitrust and transaction matters in the health care industry, were named to the "2008 BTI Client Service All-Star Team for Corporate Transactions." According to the survey, they were recognized for “delivering truly superior client service in corporate M&A work.” Attorneys who made the “All-Star” list were noted by clients as possessing an ability to break down deal complexities and a profound understanding of the client’s business.

“We are deeply honored to have been recognized by our clients for the service we provide. Good corporate lawyers can put together the legal nuts and bolts of a complex transaction. Our philosophy has been to do much more than that. We work very hard to understand and then implement our clients’ long-term and short-term objectives and needs, both from the business and legal perspective,” said Stuart.

The news comes on the heels of significant growth in the Corporate Group, which has enhanced its capabilities in recent years through the addition of partners and more junior lawyers in the United States and Europe. According to the survey, "Corporate counsel recognized Crowell & Moring for exceptional performance in 11 of 12 facets of the transactions relationship.”

Crowell & Moring was recognized for excellence in multiple categories, including:

  • Experience with Complex Transactions
  • Proven Track Record
  • Mobilizing Resources
  • Chemistry
  • Delivering Practical Advice
  • Closing Deals
  • Business Savvy
  • Understanding the Client's Company
  • Regulatory Knowledge
