Washington, D.C. - June 1, 2010: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce the firm has been named "Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year" for a second time by the Tahirih Justice Center (TJC). The firm will be honored at Tahirih's 13th Annual Fundraising Benefit on September 22, 2010.
TJC is a nonprofit organization founded in 1997 to address the need for legal services of immigrant and refugee women who have fled to the United States seeking protection from human rights abuses in their home countries. Through direct litigation and public policy advocacy, TJC encourages the development of laws to protect the women and girls from abuse.
Crowell & Moring has been handling pro bono matters referred by TJC since 2004. The firm has successfully represented Tahirih-referred clients in filing applications for relief under the Violence Against Women Act, U visa applications, a T visa application, a gender-based asylum application as well as providing legal advice to TJC as a nonprofit client.
