ABA Appoints Crowell & Moring’s Monty Cooper to Section of Environment, Energy and Resources Council

Washington – August 23, 2022: The American Bar Association has appointed Crowell & Moring’s Monty Cooper to serve a three-year term as a member of the ABA’s Section of Environment, Energy and Resources Council, the Section’s governing body. Representing more than 8,500 members including lawyers, advisors, law students, and decision-makers, the ABA-SEER provides a premier forum for dialogue and professional development in environmental law.

Cooper has been involved with ABA for a number of years, including publishing several articles in its publications on environmental topics, including concerning climate change and tort litigation, and previously serving as a co-chair of ABA-SEER’s Membership Diversity Enhancement Program and as chair of ABA-SEER’s Special Committee for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

A counsel in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, Cooper’s practice focuses on product liability, environmental, and complex civil litigation. He has litigated tort and contract cases across the country, advising clients in high-exposure litigation in numerous venues. He has defended major oil companies in product liability litigation and property damage claims arising from environmental issues. He also provides counsel in non-litigation matters, including concerning property-transfer laws and regulatory and legislative matters affecting the mining industry.

Cooper works with a team of Crowell attorneys to track emerging risks associated with environmental justice issues. He has advised clients on areas associated with corporate environmental sustainability, including environmental, social, and governance matters. He has also published articles and spoken on panels across the country concerning a wide variety of topics affecting his clients, including environmental and mining matters, changes in the U.S. tax code that affect multinational corporations regarding environmental enforcement, and artificial intelligence and digital transformation. Cooper has also been recognized as a leader within the profession, including membership as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

ILTA Names Alma Asay to 2024 List of Influential Women in Legal Technology

The International Legal Technology Association has named Crowell & Moring’s chief innovation and value officer Alma Asay to its 2024 list of Influential Women in Legal Technology. The annual list honors “outstanding women leaders in the global legal technology community.” Honorees are selected based on their history of mentorship and “level of impact on legal technology.”
