Conflicts of Interest: Practical Issues and Solutions

This course will provide the practicing attorney with an understanding of conflicts of interest issues under the District of Columbia Rules of Professional Conduct and the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct. The topics covered will include the lawyer's duty of loyalty, representing both sides in a business transaction, being adverse to one's own client in an unrelated matter, conflict of issue considerations involving former clients, and conflict issues after changing law firms. The program will also address the consequences of a conflict of interest, including disqualification, professional discipline and malpractice, and law firm procedures to avoid conflicts of interest.
