Overview

Mara Lieber represents manufacturers, distributors, businesses, and individuals from pre-litigation through appeal. Understanding that not all disputes are the same, she is skilled at identifying and addressing her client’s objectives with minimal disruption by balancing litigation risks with business goals.

Mara consistently delivers results for clients facing large-scale, multi-party litigations, including class actions and advertising disputes. Her diverse client base spans industries, including food and beverage, transportation, and telecommunications. Having appeared in multiple state and federal jurisdictions nationwide, Mara is well-versed in all procedural aspects of litigation, including venue and jurisdictional disputes, discovery, motion practice, trial/arbitration, and appeal.

In addition to her national practice, Mara has an extensive understanding of the unique procedures and rules within New York courts. She provides clients from across the country with insightful and effective representation in federal and state courts. These include the Southern District of New York (SDNY), Eastern District of New York, the Second Circuit, and New York County Supreme Court.

  • Representing national coal company in lawsuits brought by counties and cities around the country alleging tort violations for greenhouse emissions.
  • Represented Multichannel Video Programming Distributor in antitrust claim against television broadcasters. 
  • Representing a world-leading food manufacturer in a putative class action lawsuit alleging false labeling.
  • Representing a parking management company in a putative class action filed in the SDNY alleging violation of the Drivers Privacy Protection Act.
  • Representing major automobile manufacturer in nationwide class action alleging vehicle performance defects, breach of warranty, fraud, and consumer protection claims.
  • Representing CSX Transportation in multidistrict litigation alleging a price-fixing conspiracy among certain providers of rail freight transportation services.
  • Represented large institutional investor in Texas litigation seeking to recover over $70 million in losses on certain project finance notes issued by a contractor of Petróleo Brasileiro, Inc. (Prior firm).
  • Represented a global financial services firm in the prosecution of hundreds of millions of dollars in indemnification claims against loan originators for the benefit of the firm’s creditors. In connection with that litigation, successfully opposed multiple motions to dismiss and transfer venue. (Prior firm).
  • Represented a subsidiary of the fourth-largest investment bank in the U.S. in prosecution of claims against major financial institutions and entities in their capacities as Trustees, Issuers, and/or Noteholders in connection with the termination of synthetic credit default obligations. (Prior firm).
  • Represented Connecticut-based contractor sued in New York court and successfully obtained dismissal of the action based on lack of personal jurisdiction. (Prior firm).
