While taxes are always front of mind for businesses, recent changes to federal tax law and a significant boost in funding for tax enforcement in the U.S. have reinforced the need for sophisticated guidance in this area. In this new era, businesses need experienced lawyers who can help with their most challenging and complex tax issues.
Government Contracts
Claims and Disputes Litigation
Disputes between the government, prime contractors, and lower-tier subcontractors are as old as government contracting itself, and an inevitable part of the business. These disputes often involve government laws, regulations, and contract clauses that have no counterpart in commercial transactions and that require specific knowledge of federal procurement law. Moreover, when a large government procurement goes bad, the amounts at stake can be staggering. Crowell & Moring's government contract lawyers have decades of experience involving some of the largest contractors and government programs and are knowledgeable in drafting claims, shaping entitlement theories, formulating methods of computing the amount of recovery, and processing and litigating claims.

Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Modernization and Reform
On June 22, 2016, President Obama signed into law the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act. This legislation, which is intended to modernize the 40-year-old Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), completely overhauls the way that chemical products are regulated in the United States. Importantly, the New TSCA does not only affect chemical producers or importers. Any company that uses chemical products in its operations is potentially subject to regulation under this law.
Pro Bono
On June 21, 2023, the Florida Commission on Offender Review denied parole to Crosley Green, ruling that his tentative parole release date will be in 2054, when he will be 97 years old. The 65-year-old grandfather has already served 32 years in prison, including 19 years on death row, for a Brevard County murder that he did not commit.
