Overview

A highly experienced Chartered (UK) and European patent attorney, Stuart has drafted and prosecuted many hundreds of patent applications on behalf of clients. He has also conducted oppositions and appeals at the European Patent Office, infringement and validity opinions, and freedom-to-operate analyses, and has defended a patent revocation action at the UK Intellectual Property Office.

Stuart has patent and technical experience in: spacecraft propulsion systems; aircraft gas turbine engines; conceptual and detailed design of spacecraft and aircraft including UAVs/drones; aerospace structures and subsystems; flight simulation including mechanical systems, engines, autopilots and flight dynamics; automotive engineering; oil and gas technologies; medical devices; printing technologies; vaping devices; metal-making and processing technologies; scientific apparatus; mechanical engineering; and manufacturing engineering.

He has worked in-house at Rolls-Royce as well as in private practice at top-tier London firms. He enjoys working with a variety of clients, from start-ups to multinational corporations, including household names. Some are UK-based, while others are in mainland Europe, Asia, and North America.

Stuart entered the patent profession after a successful engineering career in the commercial and defense aerospace industries. He held senior engineering positions at EADS and QinetiQ, where he undertook challenging projects for prestigious client organizations including the UK Ministry of Defence, the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the European Space Agency, Rolls-Royce, Airbus, and Boeing. Stuart was the lead industrial engineer responsible for the propulsion systems of the European Space Agency’s Mars Express and Venus Express spacecraft.
