Michael Pine

Michael is an experienced trial lawyer in both state and federal courts. Michael served as a trial attorney in the Antitrust Division at the Department of Justice, where he conducted investigations into violations of the Sherman Act and price fixing, with a focus on international cartels. Prior to that, Michael served as an assistant attorney general in the corruption and fraud and public integrity sections of the Office of the Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Michael led investigations into a wide range of complex matters, including false claims, securities fraud, tax fraud, procurement fraud, and violations of state lobbying laws. Michael litigated matters from arraignment through sentencing, including the briefing and oral argument of novel evidentiary and substantive motions. Michael has been counsel in multiple jury trials, successfully serving as first-chair in a securities fraud trial, as well as helping to secure the first conviction for child endangerment based on improper disposal of asbestos in violation of the state clean air act. Michael also served as a special assistant district attorney for the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office in Boston.

Prior to his public sector experience, Michael worked on a wide range of criminal and civil litigation. Michael’s experience includes representing:

• Health care clients in ongoing litigation and arbitration of complex reimbursement disputes between health plans, pharmacy benefit managers, and retail pharmacies.
• Victims of terrorism in FSIA litigation in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia arising from attacks on U.S. embassy and U.S. embassy annex in Beirut, Lebanon.
• An industrial manufacturer in a lawsuit alleging theft of trade secrets.
• A securities broker in an arbitration alleging unsuitable investments.
• The principal of a regional broker-dealer in an SEC civil enforcement action arising out of a subordinate's provision of kickbacks in return for trades.
• A housing management company in a federal civil false claims investigation arising from allegations relating to its management of HUD Section 8 properties.
• A biotech investor charged with wide-ranging Civil RICO claims.
