Overview

A versatile European patent attorney and European patent litigator, John focuses on prosecution of life sciences patent applications in Europe and beyond. John works directly with life science companies to grow valuable patent portfolios adapted for multiple jurisdictions around the world.

John is versed in prosecution of patent families globally, collaborating with local attorneys to secure comprehensive international patent coverage for clients. John’s prosecution work is informed by his experience of litigation proceedings before Europe’s Unified Patent Court (UPC) and opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO). John regularly writes about current legal topics and has been featured in the quarterly journal of the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (epi Information); the Life Sciences Intellectual Property Review (LSIPR); and the popular IPKat website.

John brings a keen scientific eye to his practice, having undertaken interdisciplinary research in the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford. There, he prepared DNA origami nanostructures and bespoke assays for radiobiological analyses. Later, as part of his legal training, John was awarded the GlaxoSmithKline Prize for securing the highest mark across the patents examinations at Queen Mary University of London.
