Overview

James Kaiser is a counsel in Crowell & Moring’s Washington, D.C. office, where he is a member of the firm’s Health Care Group. An experienced trial and appellate litigator, he represents clients in the health care industry in a range of commercial disputes.

Most recently, James served as a Deputy Director of the Legal Division of the Clerk’s Office at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. The Legal Division’s primary responsibility is to recommend to the court the disposition of substantive and procedural motions, appeals decided without oral argument, and emergency matters. In his role as Deputy Director, James worked closely with a team of lawyers to provide recommendations and assistance to the judges of the court in resolving a wide variety of civil and criminal matters.

Prior to his government service, James worked as an associate in the intellectual property litigation group of an international law firm. He represented clients in a variety of industries in patent and commercial litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts. James also represented numerous pro bono clients in employment discrimination, landlord-tenant, fraud, and civil rights matters. James began his career as a law clerk for the Honorable Norman K. Moon on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia.
