David B. Siegel

Overview

David B. Siegel is a retired partner at Crowell & Moring. He was a member of the firm’s Litigation Group and focused his practice on complex litigation, toxic tort, and products litigation. He was a longstanding member of Crowell's Management Board, served as managing partner, and was a former chair of the firm's Litigation Group. David served as national coordinating counsel and national strategic counsel for companies with national "mass tort" litigations involving claims of both property damage and personal injury. With more than 40 years of experience, David also counseled numerous clients on strategies to improve the cost effectiveness of large-scale litigation through the expanded use of technology and developing law firm networks to efficiently manage national litigation.

David clerked for The Honorable Clarence C. Newcomer of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania before joining Crowell.

He is a member of the District of Columbia bar, various district and courts of appeal, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

David served as national coordinating counsel in the following representative matters:

  • For Caterpillar in the company’s welding rod litigation, friction products, premises liability and silica litigation,
  • For the American Psychiatric Association in the Ritalin class action litigation,
  • For DuPont in the company’s premises liability and benzene litigations – David was inducted into the DuPont Leaders Circle,
  • For AT&T in the company’s asbestos litigation, and 
  • For a major manufacturer of building products in nationwide claims of property damage.

Finally, David counseled clients considering purchasing or investing in companies that faced potential tort liabilities—assessing potential risks and benefits of such proposed transactions as well as potential structures for such transactions.
