Overview

Ben Calloens is an associate in Crowell & Moring’s Brussels office and a member of the firm’s Antitrust and Competition Group. He advises across a broad spectrum of European and national competition law matters, including merger control, abuse of dominant position, cartel investigations, and state aid.

Prior to joining the firm, Ben gained substantial experience working in top-tier international and independent Belgian law firms. He also served in the legal department of the Belgian Competition Authority, providing him with direct insight into regulatory enforcement practices and administrative proceedings.

Ben’s academic research has focused on the enforcement framework and objective justifications surrounding the abuse of dominance provision, and on state aid cases where certain tax benefits have been granted to multinationals using a variety of schemes.
