There is no doubt that the war in Ukraine has had sweeping impacts on a number of markets around the world from supply chains to commodity pricing. Perhaps the most immediate impact in the UK has been on energy prices, which have reached record levels and had massive impacts on both inflation and, of course, cost of living. It is therefore timely that the UK Government has recently launched a much-needed review of electricity markets intended to future-proof the current system and make it better able to accommodate the huge increase in renewable energy required to meet our net zero ambitions.

Over the past 2 years, our Energy & Infrastructure Team has seen first-hand the impact COVID-19 has had on greenfield infrastructure projects both in the UK and more globally from the US to the Middle East; from impact on cashflows to operational uncertainty in supply chains; from delays in government approvals to Government mandated shutdowns. 

On January 14, 2016, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) issued Directive 4715.21 to organize comprehensive agency-wide action to address and mitigate the risks of climate change on U.S. military assets and operations. The Directive implements for DoD Executive Order 13653 (Preparing the United States for the Impacts of Climate Change), which directed each federal agency to develop and institute policies designed to improve climate resilience. It also follows several DoD reports and assessments of the military's 7,000 bases, installations and facilities, which found that climate change poses a present security threat.
