Washington – June 10, 2026: Crowell & Moring has been recommended in eight practice areas in the 19th edition of the Legal 500 United States. Washington – June 4, 2026: Crowell & Moring earned 92 individual rankings for 81 attorneys, as well as 48 national and statewide practice area rankings, in the Chambers USA 2026 guide. The Chambers guide ranks the country’s top law firms and lawyers through in-depth research, client interviews, and feedback from attorneys at peer firms. 

Washington – November 5, 2025: Crowell & Moring ranked nationally in 20 practice areas in the 2026 edition of Best Lawyers "Best Law Firms." In addition, the firm was ranked in 38 metropolitan categories. 

On December 17, 2025, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a request for information (RFI) on a proposal designed to help the FDA engage more directly with innovative, venture-backed companies focused on biotechnology, medical devices, AI, and regulatory technology.[i]The RFI includes 19 questions, with responses due by 2:00 p.m. ET on January 18, 2026.

In a somewhat ambiguous press release on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a halt and “immediate review” of new clinical trials where American patients’ cells are sent to China or other “hostile countries” for genetic engineering with the expectation that the cells will be infused back into U.S. patients.[1] A subsequent podcast published by the agency also said that therapies that involved cells that were sent to China for genetic engineering and intended for subsequent infusion into U.S. patients would not be approved going forward. The announcement said that there is “mounting evidence” that some clinical researchers failed to obtain informed consent from trial participants about the international transfer and manipulation of biological material.

Since his inauguration on January 20, 2025, President Trump has issued a flurry of executive orders (“EOs”). Three of these EOs rescind Biden Administration guidance extending the nondiscrimination protections under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (the “ACA”) to discrimination based on gender identity.[1] These protections have had a tumultuous history since Section 1557 was enacted in 2010, with each administration reversing course from the last. The new administration has reverted to the position taken in President Trump’s last presidency – that the protections against discrimination “on the basis of sex” do not apply to gender identity.

Troy Barsky, a Washington, D.C.-based partner in the firm's Health Care Group, explains recent legislation designed to repeal the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula for physician reimbursement, as well as provisions echoing the fraud and abuse mandates in the Affordable Care Act. "This is a strong message from Congress that the focus on fraud and abuse is here today," Barsky said. "The bill was supposed to focus on physician payments, but…having a strong compliance program is vitally important if you continue to operate in this space."
