Washington – April 25, 2018: Crowell & Moring is pleased to announce that 11 practice areas and 11 lawyers in its Brussels office were recognized by the Legal 500 Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) 2018 edition. The firm was recognized as “top tier” in two categories. Among the lawyers recognized, Thomas De Meese, co-managing partner of the firm’s Brussels office, is listed in the Legal 500 Hall of Fame for “continued excellence in client service.”

On October 17, 2019 the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) revised the judgment of the ECHR's Third Chamber in López Ribalda and Others v. Spain. The Grand Chamber decided that in certain circumstances, and in conformity with the proportionality test in article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (the Convention), the use of hidden surveillance cameras on the work floor may be justified if the intention is to reveal a criminal offense (in this case theft). 

The next social elections in Belgium will be held between May 11 and May 24, 2020.

The Belgian Act of September 18, 2017, as well as the Royal Decree of July 30, 2018, implementing the Fourth Anti-Money Laundering Directive requires all Belgian companies, foundations, (international) non-profit organizations, fiduciaries and trusts to submit information about their ultimate beneficial owners to the UBO register.
