Washington – July 6, 2021: Crowell & Moring’s iManage Filesite platform has achieved HITRUST CSF Certification status related to the management and security of sensitive data and other information. The certification means the system has been evaluated against more than 270 security controls, including key risk factors impacting information security and compliance, as well as established protocols for maintaining a protected and private network.

San Francisco – July 6, 2021: Crowell & Moring client FightCamp, the at-home Boxing and Kickboxing leader in connected fitness, raised $50 million in a Series B funding backed by a group of celebrity investors and venture capitalists. With the funds, FightCamp plans on expanding to the Android platform, launching internationally, and increasing the depth of its interactive content to help users dive deeper into the sport of boxing, kickboxing, and martial arts.

Washington – July 1, 2021: Latinvex has named Ian A. Laird, co-chair of Crowell & Moring’s International Dispute Resolution Group, as one of Latin America’s Top 100 Lawyers. The list is developed by Latinvex’ editorial and research staff using data from their annual survey of international law firms, as well as publicly available data. This is the third consecutive year Laird has been selected for the list.

London – June 30, 2021: Crowell & Moring secured a win on behalf of Dana UK Axle in a High Court judgment that culminates more than three years of intense litigation and seven years of engagement between Dana UK Axle and Freudenberg Sealing Technologies.  On June 28, London’s Technology and Construction Court issued its judgment finding fully in Dana’s favor and awarding all of the £11,243,026 claimed and an indemnity for future losses.  The court will award the client interest on this judgment as well, which will be a substantial additional sum.  Freudenberg will be ordered to pay Dana’s legal fees and expenses, the majority of which will be on an “indemnity” basis, and a £75,000 penalty for failing to accept an earlier Part 36 offer, which operates much like an offer of judgment in the U.S.

BALTIMORE – Four residents of Baltimore’s Harlem Park neighborhood who filed a federal court lawsuit against the Baltimore City Police Department (BPD) and former Police Commissioner Kevin Davis charging that their state and federal constitutional rights were violated during a six-day, multi-block lockdown of their neighborhood following the death of Detective Sean Suiter announced today that they have settled their lawsuit and the city has issued a rare public apology.

Los Angeles – June 22, 2021: Crowell & Moring’s Nicole Janigian Simonian has been named a vice chair of the International Employment Law Committee of the ABA International Law Section. Simonian is co-chair of Crowell & Moring’s International Trade Group and serves as the firm’s International Employment and Global Mobility lead.

New York – June 22, 2021: Glen G. McGorty and Rebecca Monck Ricigliano have authored a chapter of the upcoming publication from the National Association of Attorneys General: The Anticorruption Manual: A Guide for State Prosecutors. The book, which provides an overview of prosecuting corruption in the United States, is the first publication in 30 years dedicated to guiding prosecutors who investigate and charge public corruption crime. It is also the first of its kind to address the needs of state and local corruption prosecutors. 

New Orleans – June 16, 2021: Voice of the Experienced (VOTE), a Louisiana-based grassroots organization founded and run by formerly incarcerated people, and Advancement Project, a next-generation, multi-racial civil rights organization, along with Crowell & Moring LLP, celebrated the enactment of Act 127 – H.B. 378 in Louisiana, which was signed into law on June 10, 2021. The bill will ensure that individuals sentenced only to probation will not lose their voting rights due to a felony conviction, and will prevent government officials from expending unnecessary resources to suspend voting rights, and then having to work to restore them for people who should not have been suspended from voter rolls in the first place. More than 30,000 people are currently estimated to be on probation in Louisiana, and the new law will help additional people each year as new individuals are sentenced to probation.

Doha – June 9, 2021: Crowell & Moring hosted a virtual event for the U.S. Embassy in Qatar to discuss the latest developments in key areas of law which impact the business landscape in the country. Hoffman are the co-chairs of The Legal Aid Society of The District of Columbia's $3-million fundraising campaign, called Making Justice Real Campaign, which launched this week and will provide free legal services to poverty-stricken individuals and families living in Washington, D.C.

Doha – May 28, 2021: Crowell & Moring and the American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar (AmCham) hosted a webinar on foreign direct investment (FDI) in Qatar. The virtual discussion, which took place on Thursday, May 27, 2021, was led by Charbel Maakaron, managing partner of the Crowell & Moring Doha office, and Arnaud Montouché, counsel at the firm.

New York – May 26, 2021: S. Starling Marshall, a partner in Crowell & Moring’s Tax and Litigation groups in New York, has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel.

Washington – May 20, 2021: Chambers and Partners has ranked 63 Crowell & Moring lawyers in 75 rankings across 41 categories in the Chambers USA 2021 guide, an increase of 10 lawyers, 13 rankings and 8 categories over last year’s results. In addition, 30 practice areas were also ranked in the guide, up from 21 practices last year. The regional and national rankings are driven by independent interviews of clients and lawyers.

San Francisco – May 20, 2021: The Daily Journal has named partner A. Marisa Chun to its 2021 list of Top Women Lawyers in California. The annual award series recognizes the successes and victories of women lawyers in the courtroom and at the negotiating table, as well as their advancements in the legal industry. Chun is a member of Crowell & Moring’s Litigation Group in the firm’s San Francisco office and is co-chair of the firm’s Appellate practice.
