Brussels – June 30, 2026: Managing Intellectual Property has recognized seven attorneys in Belgium and four in the United Kingdom, plus five practice areas — including a first-time ranking in Trademark Prosecution in Belgium — in its 2026 IP Stars guide. The guide "covers a variety of IP practice areas and more than 80 jurisdictions, making it the most comprehensive and widely respected IP practitioner guide in the legal profession." 

Chicago – June 2, 2026: Intellectual Asset Management recognized Crowell & Moring in its IAM Patent 1000 – The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners guide, awarding a gold band ranking for patent litigation and transactions in Belgium, a silver band ranking for patent litigation and recommended for patent prosecution in Illinois, and a bronze band ranking for patent prosecution in the United Kingdom: England and Wales. The firm was also recommended nationally in the United States for trade secrets litigation.

London – November 11, 2025: Computer Weekly has named Emma Wright, co-chair of Crowell & Moring’s Privacy and Cybersecurity Group, to its “50 Most Influential Women in UK Tech” list for 2025. The annual list recognizes women who are driving innovation and leadership within the UK technology sector.

At the European Patent Office (EPO), a recent referral of case T 873/24 from the Technical Board to the Enlarged Board of Appeal may clarify whether last summer’s decision in case G 1/24 on claim interpretation may be extended to the analysis of Added Subject-Matter. Already G 1/24 is impacting the assessment of patentability at the EPO, but should this referral be allowed, G 1/24’s effect on the assessment of added matter could result in a real shake up of the EPO’s notoriously strict assessment of support. Nonetheless, a review of how we got here highlights the value of late arguments during the EPO appeal process.
