The U.S. is “Back” on Climate: What’s Next?
Webinar | 05.18.21, 10:00 AM EDT - 11:00 AM EDT
Please join us for an interactive webinar on May 18th to analyze the outcomes of the Leaders’ Climate Summit in April and explore ways the Biden Administration may implement its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to reduce the economy’s greenhouse gas emissions.
The U.S. NDC is a commitment to set an economy-wide net greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of 50-52% by 2030, as compared to a 2005 baseline. While recognizing that meeting this ambitious target will require a rapid acceleration of existing trends, President Biden has argued the U.S. can meet the NDC through multiple different pathways – many of which have yet to be fully developed.
Attorneys and policy experts from Crowell & Moring’s Environment & Natural Resources Group and International consulting team will lead a discussion on President Biden’s climate policy commitments and how they may translate into regulatory, legislative and other policy impacts across different economic sectors. Topics discussed will include:
- “Whole-of-government” approaches to climate policy - For example, how the United States is seeking to conserve more farmland as crop prices climb, potential changes to the Clean Air Act; the Administration’s proposed $174 billion investment “to win the electric vehicle (EV) market” in the American Jobs Plan, and how the courts will view these changes;
- Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Standards – The role of corporate ESG and sustainability standards, opportunities for businesses, and risks of “greenwashing” accusations; and
- Sustainable Climate Finance – How the U.S. government defines sustainable financing, how financial institutions are analyzing the new U.S. International Climate Finance Plan, and strategies and opportunities for mobilizing private financing.
We look forward to having you join us.

The landscape of AI governance and regulation is shifting. Following the release of the White House’s “America’s AI Action Plan” in July 2025 and the President’s signing of related Executive Orders, the White House has emphasized (at least rhetorically) a preference for innovation, adoption, and deregulation. But that does not tell the entire story. The Administration remains committed to exercising a heavy hand in AI, including by banning the U.S. government’s procurement of so-called “woke AI,” intervening in the development of data centers and the export of the AI technology stack, imposing an export fee for certain semiconductors to China, and assuming a stake in a U.S. semiconductor company. State legislatures are also racing to implement their own regulations, particularly around AI’s use in critical areas, such as healthcare, labor and employment, and data privacy. The many sources of regulation raise the specter of a fragmented compliance environment for businesses. This webinar will delve into the Administration’s AI strategy, going beyond the headlines to analyze:
