The Electric Vehicle and the Environment
Webinar | 05.20.21, 9:00 AM EDT - 10:00 AM EDT
Electric vehicles are taking off, and the new Administration intends to help them along through incentive programs and federal procurement of a fleet of EVs. EVs provide tremendous opportunities, but they also pose their own challenges and legal risks. Crowell & Moring is happy to announce a webinar series dedicated to issues related to electric vehicles, both for manufacturers and purchasers. We will cover everything from manufacturing EVs, to developing the charging station infrastructure, to considerations of the source of the electricity for those charging stations and how that impacts EV “fuel economy,” to reclamation and recycling of EV batteries.
Our first webinar will focus on the environmental issues surrounding EVs. Our team of experienced practitioners will explore the following areas:
- How an EV works, including operating and manufacturing;
- The environmental rules and regulations that are relevant in the EV space;
- The challenges we face in making the transition to EVs, such as the need for an expanded charging network;
- The environmental implications of transitioning both public and private vehicles to EVs;
- The opportunities and risks associated with production and use of EVs.

The landscape of AI governance and regulation is shifting. Following the release of the White House’s “America’s AI Action Plan” in July 2025 and the President’s signing of related Executive Orders, the White House has emphasized (at least rhetorically) a preference for innovation, adoption, and deregulation. But that does not tell the entire story. The Administration remains committed to exercising a heavy hand in AI, including by banning the U.S. government’s procurement of so-called “woke AI,” intervening in the development of data centers and the export of the AI technology stack, imposing an export fee for certain semiconductors to China, and assuming a stake in a U.S. semiconductor company. State legislatures are also racing to implement their own regulations, particularly around AI’s use in critical areas, such as healthcare, labor and employment, and data privacy. The many sources of regulation raise the specter of a fragmented compliance environment for businesses. This webinar will delve into the Administration’s AI strategy, going beyond the headlines to analyze:
