Editing the Ectoplasm: Studying the Ghosts of CRISPR

Webinar | 10.27.21, 2:00 PM EDT - 3:00 PM EDT

This is a joint program between the Pauline Newman IP American Inn of Court and the Hon. William C. Conner American Inn of Court.

It is now Halloween. Our story arc continues following our brilliant inventor Dr. Napoleon Brain as he is interested in protecting his new biologic drug candidate. And, in a subsequent dream, he realized that with a few tweaks using CRISPR, it could be used to promote extreme proliferation of algae in the world’s first algae powered carbon capturing bioreactor. After feeling elated with his progress, Dr. Brain is now racked with worry about protecting his original invention and his modified one. But, he is afraid of the ghosts of patents past coming to haunt his bright green future full of algae, biologic drugs, and money in clear blue skies. Join us for ghost-busting experience as we study the ectoplasm around his inventions and allow Dr. Brain to try and save the world from itself. Our program will include spooky tales around the campfire about what happened to the IP covering the revolutionary CRISPR gene modification technology and the patent prosecution, litigation and licensing lessons that can be learned.
