Washington – May 2, 2019: The National Law Journal named Crowell & Moring partner Jodi Daniel to its 2019 list of Health Care Law Trailblazers. The list features 25 lawyers who “have made significant marks on the practice, policy and technological advancements in their sector.”
Daniel leads the firm's Digital Health Practice and provides strategic, legal, and policy advice to all types of clients navigating the regulatory environment related to technology in the health care sector. In Daniel’s Trailblazer profile, the journal highlights her prior experience as the founding director of the Office of Policy in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In that role, Daniel helped spearhead important changes in health information privacy and health information technology including drafting the first health IT industry standards, incentivizing electronic health records, and creating a model privacy notice. She also wrote the original congressional report on information blocking and helped author the original HIPAA privacy rules.
Looking ahead, Daniel expects to see the health care landscape change dramatically, as “new companies will disrupt the current state of play and big tech companies are entering the space.” In the profile, she noted that “there is also a real tension between data protection and the push for making data more accessible.” Technology companies and health care organizations will need help to navigate the rapidly changing health care and regulatory landscape.
“I am honored to be recognized as a trailblazer in the health care law space,” said Daniel. “I look forward to continuing to advise companies and health care organizations that seek to realize the potential for digital transformation to improve health and health care as they navigate the dynamic legal and business environment.”
