International Trade, the Financial Crisis and the Role of the G20 – Do We Need Another Bretton Woods?

This program, presented by International Trade and Investment Committee of the CBA’s National Section on International Law, and the International Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association in cooperation with the ABA Section of International Law will be held by videoconference in Washington DC and Toronto Ontario. Others are welcome to join by conference call. This is a Brown Bag Lunch program (no charge).

In this informal and interactive session, the Honorable Pierre Pettigrew, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of International Trade in the Chrétien and Martin Cabinets, will discuss his views on the current economic crisis and whether it raises the need for a restructuring of current international institutions. In particular, Mr. Pettigrew will focus on the role of the G-20 and the Bretton Woods institutions and advance options for change that might better serve the modern globalized economy. Mr. Pettigrew's presentation will be followed by an interactive discussion in which all are welcome to participate.
