CAHP - The Complexity of Data Privacy and Compliance under HIPAA-HITECH

Event | 07.22.13, 12:00 AM UTC - 12:00 AM UTC

The federal government released final rules pertaining to Privacy, Security, and Breach reporting compliance under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. These rules are intended to strengthen the privacy and security protections for health information established under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). The Omnibus Final Rule poses a number of challenges for health plan implementation from a technological standpoint as well as compliance and policy perspective. The new requirements come at a time when health plans are already undergoing massive delivery system transformation under the Affordable Care Act. This seminar will provide health plan staff an overview of the new regulations and their impact from a legal perspective as well as discussing challenges and best practices for bringing policies into compliance. We will consider strategies to identify vulnerabilities and develop solutions for issues of data privacy and security. Attendees will leave better equip to face the complex world of health care data security.

Scott Moore is the opening speaker.  His topic is "Navigating the Legal Landscape: HIPAA, HITECH, the Affordable Care Act, and State Law."
