Advocating for Social Justice Through Pro Bono

Event | 10.26.17, 1:30 PM EDT - 3:30 PM EDT

Address

Crowell & Moring
1001 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20004

In support of DC Pro Bono Week October 22-28, 2017, Crowell & Moring will be hosting a panel, “Advocating for Social Justice Through Pro Bono” presented by the Washington Council of Lawyers. Political division, racial discrimination, natural disaster – today’s news headlines often leave us feeling helpless in times of constant turmoil. This panel discussion will explore ways that private sector attorneys can utilize their pro bono experiences to increase access to justice for marginalized communities. We will examine opportunities for attorneys at law firms and corporations to leverage their legal skills to combat inequality and compel positive change in the world – both systemically and with clients right in our own neighborhoods. We will have a frank conversation about the ability to be a true change agent within the confines of private sector employment. The event’s diverse and insightful panel includes:

  • Peter Edelman—Professor of Law & Public Policy, Georgetown University Law Center (moderator)
  • Joe Meadows—Litigation Counsel, Crowell & Moring
  • Steven Schulman—Pro Bono Partner, Akin Gump
  • Sirine Shebaya—Senior Staff Attorney, Muslim Advocates
  • Christopher Tyson—IP Associate, Duane Morris

A cocktail (half) hour will begin at 5:30pm, with the panel discussion from 6:00 – 7:30 pm.
