James K. Stronski

Senior Counsel

Overview

Jim Stronski is a senior counsel in the New York office of Crowell & Moring, and a member of the Intellectual Property Group. He also is a member of the Trade Secrets Working Group, and the Litigation and Trial Department. He previously was a partner serving on the firm’s IP steering committee.

Jim is a first-chair trial lawyer concentrating on IP litigation and related commercial and licensing disputes. He has litigated in courts nationwide for over 30 years and has been recognized in New York Super Lawyers Metro Edition for intellectual property litigation.

Jim’s practice includes patent litigation, trade secret litigation and counseling, and related commercial disputes.  Jim has a focus on the life sciences and has represented pharmaceutical companies, for example, in patent, trade secret, trademark, copyright, unfair competition, and commercial disputes.  Specifically, he has considerable experience with Hatch-Waxman litigation and with trade secret disputes, representing these companies concerning the IP obstacles to the commercialization of generic or biosimilar products. Jim also advises and represents businesses utilizing blockchain and AI technologies.  In addition, Jim is experienced clearing trademarks and litigating trademark and unfair competition claims.

Jim serves on the firm’s Public Service Committee. He has been active representing individuals on death row, challenging convictions, seeking sentence commutation, and challenging methods and protocols used in executions.  This work and the work of a many others at Crowell was recognized in the firm’s receipt of the 2018 Exceptional Service Award from the ABA’s Death Penalty Project.

Jim was a law clerk to the Honorable Judge Shirley Wohl Kram, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, from 1988 to 1990.
