In his nearly 20 years as a patent prosecution attorney, Scott W. Brim has developed both breadth and depth, advising all his clients on how to obtain patents and secure the assets that are most valuable to them. Scott has built long-term relationships with many clients in the fields of automotive / intelligent transportation systems, semiconductor design and semiconductor production, navigation systems, memory systems, and e-commerce, advising several for more than 10 years. Throughout these long relationships, Scott has been integral in drafting and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications.

With an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering and a minor in computer science, Scott brings a broad technical background to his clients. He has written and prosecuted patent applications across a range of innovations, including intelligent transportation systems, memory devices, e-commerce advertising platforms, financial derivatives for a U.S. financial exchange, LED lights for a multinational manufacturer of semiconductor light-emitting diode materials and telecommunication devices and networks for a multinational telecommunications corporation.

Scott provides his clients with valuable insights into the workings of the Patent Office. He brings that insight to every facet of the patent process, from brainstorming with inventors about cutting-edge technology to preparing and prosecuting domestic and foreign applications. Through all of his work, he helps clients in thinking forward to obtain patents and secure the rights that hold the most value for the company for now and for the future.

Experience

  • Scott represented a multinational internet technology company for more than a decade. His work focused on internet e-commerce and Internet advertising and covered patent applications that were prosecuted domestically in the U.S., as well as foreign applications. For this client, Scott worked directly with its inventors to identify areas where patent applications can be mined.
  • For more than five years, Scott has represented a multinational automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) company.  His work has focused on managing the prosecution of U.S. cases related to intelligent transportation systems, including autonomous driving systems.
  • For a company that provides navigation systems and audio components for automobiles, Scott has been involved for more than fifteen years in prosecuting U.S. cases that were filed based on foreign cases.
