Dr. Karla I. Arias is an associate in the Intellectual Property Group in Crowell & Moring's Washington D.C. office.
Prior to joining Crowell & Moring, Karla worked at Carnegie Mellon University’s Institute for Green Science as a Swiss National Science Foundation postdoctoral fellow investigating the degradation of endocrine-disrupting contaminants in water and the formation and reactivity of iron complexes.
Karla received her doctorate in organic chemistry at the University of Zurich, where her research focused on the synthesis of supramolecular architectures and the study of fluorescent and phosphorescent properties of supramolecular building blocks. In addition, Karla holds a M.Sc. in chemistry from the University of Zurich, focusing on organic chemistry, and a B.S. in chemistry from the University of California, San Diego.
Karla has focused on patent prosecution and has used her scientific background to provide technical analysis in support of patent counseling, opinion work, and litigation for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
