Terence (“Terry”) P. Ross is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Crowell & Moring and co-chair of the firm’s Trademark and Brand Protection Working Group. Terry's practice is concentrated on the trial of civil lawsuits, particularly those involving intellectual property, media and technology. Terry has broad experience in various types of intellectual property disputes, including patent and copyright infringement; trade secret and unfair competition litigation; and trademark/trade name disputes.

Terry's experience at both the trial and appellate levels is extensive. He has had a principal role in several dozen jury or bench trials and arbitrations. Most recently, Terry helped represent plaintiff DuPont in a case alleging misappropriation of over 100 trade secrets relating to KEVLAR® fiber technology in one of the largest trade secret misappropriation cases in U.S. history and obtained $275 million in restitution and damages from Kolon for the theft of KEVLAR® technology. In addition, Terry has made oral arguments to the Supreme Court of Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

In 2002, Terry was selected by IP Worldwide Magazine as one of the seven best intellectual property litigators in the United States under the age of 45. Washingtonian Magazine has repeatedly selected him as one of the "best lawyers" in the Washington, D.C. area. He was also selected as a Washington, D.C. “Super Lawyer” in the field of intellectual property by Super Lawyers Magazine in 2013, 2014 and 2015. The Washington Legal Foundation, a public interest organization dedicated to furthering the principles of free enterprise, has described Terry as "one of the country's top lawyers." In addition, the National Institute of Trial Advocacy has conferred on Terry its designation as a "Master Advocate."

In his almost 30 years of practice, Terry has developed a reputation for aggressively handling significant cases that involve large potential damages or cutting-edge issues of law. Accordingly, he has managed staffs of lawyers and paralegals ranging from three to thirty with case budgets running up to $10 million per year.

Terry is active in many Bar Associations. He speaks and writes regularly on a variety of intellectual property topics. In particular, he chairs the D.C. Bar Association's Annual Developments in Intellectual Property Law Forum and is a former member of the steering committee of the American Bar Association's Intellectual Property Litigation Committee. He is also an adjunct professor at George Mason University Law School where he teaches intellectual property. Terry is the author of the leading treatise on intellectual property damages, Intellectual Property Law: Damages and Remedies, published by Law Journal Press.
