Joanne Oleksyk is an associate in Crowell & Moring's White Collar & Regulatory Enforcement Group at the firm’s New York office. She represents individuals and entities throughout all stages of criminal, regulatory, and internal investigations. Joanne’s practice has focused on the financial services and pharmaceutical industries, and she routinely represents clients under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, New York Department of Financial Services, and FINRA. Joanne also practices commercial litigation and assists the court-appointed monitor of the New York City District Council of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and its Benefit Funds.

Representative White Collar Matters

  • Represented an investment bank sales executive under investigation for market manipulation by the SEC, resulting in no enforcement action recommended.
  • Defended a London-based foreign-exchange trader charged with wire fraud and conspiracy based on an alleged “front-running” scheme in the Eastern District of New York. Client successfully challenged extradition from the U.K.
  • Represented a broker called as a witness at trial in an insider trading case brought by the Southern District of New York.
  • Represented a broker-dealer in connection with an SEC investigation of its client.
  • Represented a securities trader in connection with a FINRA investigation prompted by a Rule 4530 report.

Representative Litigation Matters

  • Achieved dismissal of shareholder litigation over executive compensation.
  • Opposed successfully in New York State Court an order to show cause seeking to seize a developer’s proprietary software without payment.
  • Represented an energy trading company seeking to enforce a monetary judgment against alter egos.
  • Defend a chemicals company against class action and mass action environmental contamination suits.
  • Defend a health insurance company against contract claims by a for-profit hospital system.
  • Defend an individual against a constitutional claim seeking personal liability for prison conditions through Second Circuit en banc appeal and Supreme Court certification.

Joanne also maintains an active pro bono practice, representing clients in criminal, immigration, and family proceedings.
