Brian McGrath is an associate in Crowell & Moring’s New York office and a member of the firm’s International Trade Group. Brian’s practice focuses on a broad spectrum of trade issues including compliance with U.S. economic sanctions, export controls and antiboycott regimes, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and anti-money laundering (AML) laws and regulations. Brian assists clients with day-to-day compliance, developing and/or reviewing U.S. export and sanctions compliance programs, conducting internal investigations, and advising U.S. and non-U.S. companies with respect to proposed transfers of U.S. origin technology, software, hardware, and services. Brian also has significant experience advising clients on antidumping and countervailing duty investigations and litigation involving the U.S. International Trade Commission.

Brian maintains an active pro bono practice, representing clients across a variety of practice areas, including immigration proceedings, veterans’ benefits appeals, FOIL litigation, and securing OFAC and BIS licenses for U.S. non-profit to undertake multi-drug resistant tuberculosis treatment involving U.S. persons and U.S. products in North Korea.

Brian received his J.D. from Rutgers Law School in 2018, where he graduated cum laude and was the recipient of the Rutgers Academic Achievement Award for Excellence in Administrative Law. He was the notes editor for the Rutgers Law Record and served as a clinical law student in the Rutgers Child Advocacy Clinic, where he represented clients seeking Supplemental Security Income as well as serving as law guardian for children in Family Court proceedings. While in law school, Brian worked at a non-profit organization in New York City helping to represent low-income families of students seeking special education services. He also worked as a law clerk for a boutique employment litigation firm and for a solo practitioner civil rights litigator.

Prior to joining Crowell & Moring, Brian worked as a social studies teacher at public schools in New Jersey and as an English teacher at private schools in Santiago, Chile.
