Los Angeles – November 24, 2020: The Los Angeles Business Journal has named Crowell & Moring one of its 2020 Most Admired Law Firms. The list recognizes the top firms to work for in Los Angeles and includes “an assortment of particularly outstanding law firms who are consciously working towards creating diverse, positive, and supportive environments to help drive the success of their attorneys.”

Doha—November 19, 2020: Crowell & Moring and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Qatar held a webinar today addressing the latest developments and trends in international disputes.

Washington – November 19, 2020: The Washington Business Journal recognized Crowell & Moring as one of Washington's most philanthropic law firms on its 2020 Corporate Philanthropy List for the eighth consecutive year. The list honors the Washington region's most “active and inspirational” companies and nonprofits that have made a difference in their communities through financial and volunteer philanthropic work, charitable giving, volunteer hours, and pro bono work.

Los Angeles – November 11, 2020: The Daily Journal has named partner Jennifer S. Romano to its 2020 list of “Top Women Lawyers.” The series recognizes the successes and victories of women lawyers in the court room and at the negotiating table, as well as their advancements in the legal industry. Romano serves as co-chair of Crowell & Moring’s Litigation Group and is a member of the firm’s Management Board.

Washington – November 10, 2020: The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, one of the nation’s leading organizations promoting diversity in the legal profession, has recognized Crowell & Moring with two honors: the 2020 Top Performer Award and the 2020 Compass Award.

Los Angeles – November 9, 2020: In April 2020, a federal antitrust suit was filed against the Port of Los Angeles, North America’s largest port. The plaintiff, developer Harbor Performance Enhancement Center LLC (HPEC), alleged it lost the opportunity to “develop one of the most valuable and unique assets in the country.” The suit followed the port’s 2015 selection of HPEC for exclusive negotiation of a project proposal to develop a vacant lot at the port. But after years of negotiations, the port and HPEC could never agree on a final project proposal, and the port eventually ended negotiations in May 2019. HPEC responded with litigation, first in state court and then in federal court, on the grounds that its negotiating contract was unlawfully terminated due to improper pressure from organized labor.

Washington – November 6, 2020: Crowell & Moring’s Digital Transformation Practice and Retail & Consumer Products Law Group will host a virtual event on Nov. 12 featuring Peter A. Feldman, commissioner of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, to discuss the use of digital technology in regulating the distribution of consumer products. The premier event will launch the firm’s upcoming information series, “Creating Tomorrow: Digitization of Retail and Consumer Products,” which will go beyond the pandemic to explore how the digital revolution is impacting the retail and consumer products industries.

Washington – November 6, 2020: The Diversity and Flexibility Alliance has recognized Crowell & Moring for the second consecutive year with the “Tipping the Scale” award for having a diverse partner class consisting of 50 percent or more women. Crowell & Moring is among 46 firms to receive this honor for 2020.

Washington – November 5, 2020: Crowell & Moring ranked nationally in 19 practice areas in the 2021 edition of U.S. News & World Report – Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms.” In addition, the firm was ranked in 33 metropolitan categories. 

Washington – November 4, 2020: Daniel Wolff, chair of Crowell & Moring’s Administrative Law & Regulatory Practice, has been named to the National Law Journal’s 2020 list of Political Activism and First Amendment Rights Trailblazers. The list honors 19 “agents of change” from around the country who have made impacts on cases centered on First Amendment rights to cases involving political activists.  

New York – November 2, 2020: The National Law Journal named Crowell & Moring counsel Jared Levine to its 2020 list of Immigration Law Trailblazers. The list honors 25 lawyers from around the country who have made impacts within the immigration law field.

Washington – October 29, 2020: Global Investigations Review has named Crowell & Moring’s investigations and white collar practices to its prestigious GIR 100 list, an annual guide to the world’s leading cross-border investigations practices. Based on extensive research, GIR selects 100 firms from around the world that it deems most able to handle sophisticated cross-border government-led and internal investigations. This is the sixth consecutive year that Crowell & Moring has made the list.

Washington, D.C. - October 28, 2020: Crowell & Moring has launched a new blog focused on the latest developments across the state attorneys general landscape. Titled the State Attorneys General Blog, the news source tracks and evaluates significant actions on a state-by-state basis to keep clients abreast of state attorneys general actions, including regulatory enforcement and litigation impacting businesses.

Washington – October 26, 2020: Ambassador Robert Holleyman recently presented to the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce on how COVID-19 has accelerated the digital transformation of global trade. His presentation, alongside Edward Achtner, Head of Digital Banking & Strategy Change - U.S. Commercial Bank at HSBC, touched on the current and future trade landscape and how digital solutions are being leveraged to mitigate supply chain risks. New Orleans –Voice of the Experienced (VOTE), a Louisiana-based grassroots organization founded and run by formerly incarcerated people, has issued a demand letter to Louisiana Secretary of State R. Kyle Ardoin and Commissioner of Elections Sherri Wharton Hadsky alleging they have violated the National Voter Registration Act. The group is urging the state to remove administrative barriers blocking formerly incarcerated Louisianans from registering to vote.

Washington – October 22, 2020: A new survey from the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity found that a vast majority of diverse lawyers face disparities in their careers, including gaps in sponsorship, visible representation in leadership, and pathways to success.

Washington – October 21, 2020: The Foundation for Defense of Democracies named Crowell & Moring partner Caroline Brown a 2021 National Security Fellow. Members of the fellow class include bipartisan national security professionals from the military, the government, journalism, and the private sector.

Washington – October 16, 2020: DV LEAP, a Washington, D.C.-based national domestic violence legal advocacy organization, has named Crowell & Moring lawyers Trina Fairley Barlow and Christine Hawes as its Pro Bono Team of the Year. The mission of the organization is to make “the law work for survivors of domestic violence by challenging unjust trial outcomes; advancing legal protections through expert pro bono advocacy; training lawyers, advocates, and judges on best practices; and spearheading domestic violence litigation in the supreme court.” The lawyers received the award at DV LEAP’s Tip the Scales of Justice Virtual Benefit on October 15.

Washington—October 16, 2020: Partners Sadina Montani and Ellen Moran Dwyer recently participated in the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia’s “Women and Leadership Series.”

Washington—October 14, 2020: Crowell & Moring is expanding its antitrust bench with the addition of Stefan Meisner, a first-chair defense litigator with extensive transactional and criminal antitrust investigations experience. Meisner joins as a partner in the Antitrust and Competition Group and brings more than two decades of experience representing Fortune 500 companies in significant, cross-jurisdictional antitrust matters.
