Brendan V. Mullan is an associate in Crowell & Moring's Insurance/Reinsurance Group in the San Francisco office. Brendan focuses his practice on litigating and counseling insurers in all aspects of the dispute resolution process with an emphasis on complex insurance coverage disputes. Brendan has represented insurers in bankruptcy litigation and coverage cases involving environmental contamination, asbestos liability, sexual abuse claims relating to institutional policyholders, law enforcement, design defects, professional liability, intellectual property disputes, agent and broker liability, and Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) benefits. He has also represented insurers in cases regarding permissible investments under the California insurance code and counseled insurers on dividend distributions. Brendan also has experience representing reinsurance companies with disputes arising under facultative and treaty reinsurance contracts. Brendan has successfully litigated matters in federal and state courts, and has trial and arbitration experience.
Currently, Brendan is advising an insurer concerning underlying litigation involving concussion claims by National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) student-athletes, former National Football League (NFL) players, and former National Hockey League (NHL) players.
Brendan was recognized as a "Rising Star" by Northern California Super Lawyers in 2016.
Before joining Crowell & Moring, Brendan worked in the San Francisco office of a national law firm where he represented insurers in a variety of coverage disputes and litigation matters.
Brendan graduated from San Francisco State University in 2005 with a B.A. in criminal justice. In 2009, he received a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, magna cum laude. During law school Brendan was a member of the Association of Communication, Sports, and Entertainment Society and completed the Civil Litigation Concentration. Brendan played varsity baseball while in college.
