Adrian Jones is a partner in Crowell & Moring's London office and serves on the Steering Committee of the International Dispute Resolution Group. His practice focuses on international arbitration in the oil & gas, mining, construction, and financial services arenas. Adrian has a diverse practice, serving clients ranging from Caribbean companies to those with activities in the CIS region. He has particular experience with high value and complex international arbitration cases, both under institutional rules and ad hoc. He represents clients in arbitrations under the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), as well as on complex multi-jurisdictional litigation matters in the courts of England and Wales. He has recently handled cases in the energy and financial services sectors and has been involved in a number of shareholder disputes. Adrian has experience working with Russia/CIS, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa entities in matters involving sums up to and in excess of $2 billion. In the oil & gas sector, he acts for both national and international oil companies in connection with cases involving the interpretation or renegotiation of long-term contracts.

Adrian also has considerable experience in representing investors in matters including arbitrations arising out of Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs) and in contractual claims against states. He has represented investors in matters adverse to nation states on three continents valued in the hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars.

In the financial services sector, Adrian represents banks, has been involved in a number of shareholder disputes, and has acted in a number of high value cases involving hedge funds. Adrian has also represented major financial institutions in connection with multi-jurisdictional regulatory investigations and advised in connection with proceedings before the Financial Services and Markets Tribunal.

Adrian also conducts complex multi-jurisdictional litigation in the Commercial Court. A former barrister, he is admitted to appear as an advocate before all courts in England and Wales.

He is recognized by Super Lawyers, Legal 500, and Chambers UK, among others, for his work in international arbitration and commercial litigation and Legal 500 for public international law and commercial litigation. The 2016 edition of Chambers UK noted that Adrian is "a very commercial and pragmatic" individual with "a lot of experience in the field of international arbitration." The 2015 edition highlights that he is "extremely able," and he is praised for his "logical and analytical mind and commercial awareness." Adrian is also acclaimed to be "calm" and "hard-working" (2014 edition). Clients say: "It's always a pleasure to work with Adrian, who is always available to discuss all problematic issues.   • Advised an ultra-high net worth individual on a claim against a hedge fund in relation to multi-jurisdictional proceedings.

  • Represented an investment trust in a $300 million multi-jurisdictional dispute.
  • Represented a major U.S. finance company in three ad hoc arbitrations involving aviation finance.
