Shaina Vinayek is an associate in Crowell & Moring’s Washington, D.C. office and is a member of the firm’s Antitrust and Health Care groups. Shaina’s antitrust practice focuses on antitrust business counseling, merger control, and government antitrust investigations of both horizontal and vertical conduct. Her health care practice focuses on complex litigation in federal and arbitral forums and regulatory counseling on digital health initiatives.

Representative engagements include:

  • Defending a national health insurance company in a class action regarding alleged violations of mental health parity laws.
  • Representing an aerospace and defense products supplier in a proposed merger.
  • Representing a major pharmaceutical company in false advertising litigation.
  • Counseling retail clients regarding antitrust and advertising issues, including minimum advertised price policies.
  • Counseling a digital health client on out-of-state telemedicine practice and telehealth consultation exception requirements.

Shaina maintains an active pro bono practice, which has included handling a contested custody dispute on behalf of an indigent client in the District of Columbia; navigating the appeals processes on behalf of a disabled veteran to secure disability benefits; and advising a health policy NGO on the telehealth legal and regulatory landscape across multiple states.

Shaina received her J.D. from Georgetown University, where she was on the editorial board of the Georgetown Journal of Law and Public Policy. During law school, Shaina interned for Circuit Judge Kathleen M. O’Malley at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Shaina earned her B.S. in biology, focusing on neurobiology and physiology, from the University of Maryland, her M.S. in physiology and biophysics from Georgetown University, and her M.P.H in epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.

Prior to law school, Shaina was a public health professional with practical experience in data management and analysis; creation and implementation of advocacy strategies; and community-based program development.
