Ryan C. Tisch is a partner in the firm's Antitrust & Competition Group. He specializes in complex U.S. and foreign merger‐control matters, antitrust counseling, and government antitrust investigations of both horizontal and vertical conduct.

Ryan regularly advises clients across a broad range of industries in the U.S., U.K., Europe, Asia, and many other international jurisdictions on complex antitrust matters including joint venture agreements, risk mitigation with respect to trade association activities, standard setting, data exchanges, and vertical issues, including resale price maintenance, price discrimination, and distribution issues. He has particular experience securing merger approvals for large transactions facing review in multiple international jurisdictions—in addition to his practice before the U.S. DOJ and FTC, Ryan has managed substantive merger review matters approved by the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority, the South African Competition Tribunal, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, and the Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation, among others.

Ryan's recent experience includes:

  • Representing AT&T in the regulatory review of its $67 billion acquisition of DirecTV.
  • Representing AT&T in connection with the company’s $108.7 billion acquisition of Time Warner, the largest telecommunications transaction in history.
  • Representing Amazon with respect in securing dismissal of monopolization claims in the e-reader and e-books industry.
  • Representing du Pont de Nemours, Inc. in more than 20 transactions involving international merger control notification obligations.
  • Representing E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. in securing antitrust approval of its divestiture of its Neoprene polychloroprene business.
  • Representing E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. and its subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred in their acquisition of Pannar Seed, which was ultimately approved by the South African Competition Appeal Court and the Supreme Court of South Africa.
  • Advising an international technology-based materials company with an antitrust investigation involving the United States and Asia.
  • Representing an international consumer packaging provider on its acquisition of a can packaging company in front of U.K.’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
  • Representing numerous clients on sensitive complex antitrust matters related to lawful collaborations with competitors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Representing Flowers Foods in its acquisition of Wonder Bread and other Hostess bread brands.
  • Representing the Grocery Manufacturers Association and several of its constituent companies with respect to antitrust and association issues.
  • Representing Airlines For America with respect to antitrust and association issues.
  • Counseling a number of major food and CPG manufacturers on issues related to regulatory M&A review, grocery sales, distribution, pricing, and antitrust issues.
  • Counseling a major Asian manufacturer of display panels with respect to pricing, distribution, and antitrust risk management.
  • Representing clients in the manufacturing and transportation sectors during multi-year price-fixing investigations by US and European officials.
  • Representing numerous clients in relation to investigations by state antitrust authorities for both horizontal and vertical conduct issues.
  • Conducting antitrust compliance auditing and training for clients in the US and Europe, including extensive advice on risk mitigation with respect to trade association activities, standard setting, data exchanges, and vertical issues, including resale price maintenance, price discrimination, and distribution issues.
  • Representing a global airline in connection with joint venture agreements requiring antitrust and other regulatory approvals in the United States, as well as various jurisdictions in Central and South America.
  • Counseling a variety of clients on antitrust compliance related to the structuring of complex distribution systems.

Ryan currently serves as co-chair of the Food & Agriculture Committee and is a former chair of the Trade, Sports, and Professional Associations Committee of the Antitrust Section of the American Bar Association.

Ryan also serves as co-chair of the LGBTQ + Affinity group, where he focuses on promoting equity, inclusion and opportunity within the firm.

Ryan is also active in pro bono matters, with an emphasis on immigration and asylum issues.

Ryan graduated from Yale College in 1998 with a B.A. in ethics, politics, and economics. He earned his J.D. with honors from the University of Chicago Law School in 2001. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar.
