Overview

Miranda Turner is a talented litigator who represents insurers in the most hotly contested areas of coverage litigation, advancing insurers’ interests on a wide variety of critical coverage questions such as allocation, contribution, exhaustion, and the duty to defend. At the same time, Miranda stays on top of issues such as evolving ESG standards, developments in mass tort litigations and bankruptcies, and other issues of top importance to insurance companies.

Miranda is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office and a member of the firm’s Insurance/Reinsurance and Litigation groups. She represents major insurance companies and other corporate clients in federal and state litigation around the country. Miranda has been involved in some of the most notable large-scale insurance coverage disputes in the past several years. She recently litigated coverage disputes on behalf of insurers involving underlying talc litigation; COVID-19-related business interruption claims; mass torts, including asbestos and sexual abuse claims; construction defects; and various environmental disasters.

Miranda has an active litigation practice, regularly handling matters having to do with key insurance issues, such as trigger, conditions to coverage, exclusions, allocation and contribution, and impairment and exhaustion of policy limits, as well as notice, scope of coverage, coverage for attorneys’ fee awards, rescission of policies, issues under claims-made policies, and third-party beneficiaries and settlement releases. She also provides strategic advice and policy analysis regarding coverage, defenses to coverage, and emerging issues in the industry. She has experience representing insurance clients in bankruptcy matters, regulatory investigations, and enforcement actions, and providing advice regarding disclosures and governance.

Representative Matters

  • Represented an insurer in COVID-19-related litigation over first-party coverage disputes.
  • Litigated coverage issues on behalf of insurers in bankruptcy cases involving allegations of sexual abuse.
  • Obtained judgment on the pleadings, subsequently affirmed on appeal, in favor of an insurer over coverage for cleanup costs under an environmental liability policy.
  • Represented an insurer in connection with potential coverage obligations to insureds facing talc-related products liability and attendant bankruptcy issues.
  • Represented an insurer in coverage litigation involving multiple issues arising out of legacy asbestos liability, including allocation, contribution, and trigger of coverage.
