Jordan A. Hess is an associate in the Insurance/Reinsurance Group in Crowell & Moring’s Washington, D.C. office. Jordan represents insurers and reinsurers in litigation in state and federal courts, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings and provides counseling on policy language, strategic considerations, and emerging issues. His litigation experience includes a wide range of underlying claims, e.g., long-tail environmental contamination, asbestos, construction defect, abuse, opioids, data breaches, and shareholder suits, under primary and excess general liability, cyber, D&O, E&O, and professional liability policies. Jordan also regularly counsels clients on business income losses, COVID-19, and large property loss claims under commercial property insurance policies. Jordan has significant experience litigating bad faith and extra-contractual claims in some of the nation’s most challenging jurisdictions. For reinsurance clients, Jordan assists with nuanced contract interpretation issues related to both facultative and treaty reinsurance, including loss aggregation, number of occurrences, recovering declaratory judgment expenses, and the meaning of "event" language.
While in law school, Jordan worked as a student attorney in the Criminal Appellate and Post-Conviction Services clinic, was a managing editor on the Public Contract Law Journal, and a legal research assistant.
