Joe Messina is an associate in the Insurance/Reinsurance Group at Crowell & Moring's New York office.
Joe's practice is focused on complex insurance coverage litigation and reinsurance disputes before state and federal courts, as well as before arbitration tribunals. Joe has represented clients in matters involving facultative and treaty reinsurance, comprehensive general liability, excess and umbrella liability, asbestos and environmental contamination, products liability, Directors & Officers liability, and property damage. Joe counsels clients on a variety of substantive and procedural issues, including right to associate, allocation, late notice, number of occurrences, and various other contract provisions.
Prior to joining Crowell & Moring, Joe was an associate at the New York office of an international law firm, where he counseled domestic and international insurance companies in a broad array of coverage disputes, including Bermuda form excess liability claims. Joe also previously provided counsel to the London Market for long-tail liability claims, including acting as national coordinating counsel for aviation asbestos liability.
Joe graduated from Fordham University School of Law in 2009. During law school, he served as an associate editor of the Journal of Corporate and Financial Law. He also worked as an extern at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District. Joe received his B.A. in political science from Fordham University in 2006, where he was a member of the Fordham Club and Pi Sigma Alpha.
