Jennifer Frericks

Senior Counsel

Jennifer Frericks is a senior counsel in the firm’s Mass Tort, Product, and Consumer Litigation and Product Risk Management groups.

Jennifer focuses her practice on the safety and marketing of consumer products and food. She advises major companies at every link in the distribution chain—manufacturers, importers, distributors, retailers, and reverse logistics providers—with their CPSC, FDA, and FTC regulatory needs. Her work before regulatory agencies includes extensive experience defending CPSC civil penalty investigations. With more than a decade of experience in private practice, Jennifer has counseled leading brands in navigating product safety reporting obligations under Section 15(b) of the Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA), conducting recalls and other corrective action plans, defending civil penalty investigations, and building internal compliance programs. She has advised companies concerning a wide array of safety issues including furniture tip-over, strangulation risk associated with window blind cords or clothing drawstrings, flammability of clothing and other textiles, chemical exposures in children’s products and toys, packaging issues including the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA), issues arising from new products such as “smart” devices or laundry/dishwasher pods, mechanical issues such as faulty bicycle components, and electrical issues in both major and small appliances with the potential for fire propagation.

Prior to joining Crowell, Jennifer practiced in-house for over five years at one of the world’s largest home furnishing and food companies. In this role, Jennifer was integral in the company’s global brand protection strategy. With her first-hand understanding of the client perspective, Jennifer provides practical counseling on regulatory and litigation issues stemming from the manufacturing, distribution, marketing, and sale of consumer products and food. She has a particularly deep understanding of the regulatory challenges impacting companies with international supply or distribution chains.
