Gary R. Edwards is a retired partner of Crowell & Moring. He was resident in the firm's Washington, D.C. office and a member of the Intellectual Property Group, an electrical engineer, a former patent examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center. His clients included major automotive manufacturers, electronics and communications firms, medical systems manufacturers, and aerospace companies, among others. Gary's extensive experience in patent procurement included diverse electrical, electronics, mechanical and computer systems, electric motors, electronic controls, automotive systems and controls, combustion engines, fuel cell technology, medical devices, and systems, cryogenic systems, computer architecture and networking, and electronic communications systems. Gary also served for four years as general counsel to Earth Observation Satellite Company (EOSAT), a joint venture between Hughes Aircraft Company and General Electric Company engaged in commercial operation of the Landsat satellite system, where he gained extensive experience in the protection of trade secrets and computer databases. In addition to patent, copyright, and trademark matters, Gary's background extended to domestic and international transactions, licensing and protection of trade secrets, and computer hardware and software transactions.
