Eric A. Stahl is an associate in Crowell & Moring’s Washington, D.C. office, practicing in the Mass Tort, Product, and Consumer Litigation Group.

Eric’s practice focuses on complex litigation and class action defense of clients in the medical device, pharmaceutical, transportation, and consumer products industries. Eric also advises numerous clients on regulatory and litigation risks associated with new products. Recent experience includes:

  • Composing dispositive motions in defense of hip resurfacing system manufacturer sued in two jurisdictions, resulting in dismissals of both suits.
  • Defending IVC filter medical device manufacturer in mass tort product liability lawsuits. Drafting dispositive motions, pleadings, and briefs, interviewing employees, and composing discovery responses.
  • Counseling pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer products, and automotive manufacturers on the risks of adverse litigation and regulatory action.
  • Drafting dispositive motion in putative class action against major transportation client.
  • Preparing clients for depositions, deposing opposing party employee, and managing discovery in a commercial dispute in the waste industry.
  • Assisting in the successful appellate defense of a major consumer products manufacturer against unfair trade practice claims.
Eric’s pro bono practice includes the Voting Rights Act, indigent criminal defense, and appellate litigation under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. Eric recently spent seven months as Crowell & Moring’s Loaned Associate to the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia. Eric provided legal services for low-income renters in D.C. landlord-tenant court, preventing evictions and earning rent refunds for multiple clients. On a team with Legal Aid attorneys, Eric represented ten tenants in a two-day trial, leading to a favorable settlement before judgment.

Before attending law school, Eric founded his own campaign consulting firm. He managed small teams of political professionals and provided political guidance to numerous clients, focusing on campaign finance, fundraising, and compliance.

During law school, Eric interned with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, where he represented the Commonwealth prosecuting misdemeanors in Municipal Court. Eric served as the online managing editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review, the membership chair for the American Constitution Society, and competed with the Mock Trial Team. He won the Philadelphia Public Policy Case Competition in 2015.
