Overview

Cheryl L. Howard is an associate in the Advertising and Media Group in Crowell & Moring's Washington, D.C. office. Her practice focuses on trademark and brand protection issues involving gift card/loyalty cards, rewards programs, unclaimed property laws, and trademark prosecution.

Having previously served as a trademark attorney for nearly 10 years with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO), Cheryl has extensive experience in all manner of trademark/trade dress issues. In her role at the USPTO, she reviewed thousands of trademark cases, from initial application to final registration. In private practice, Cheryl’s work experience includes advising all manner of entities, from Fortune 500 corporations to small business, on trademark and brand protection matters.

Cheryl is also active in a number of public service and pro bono matters. As a member of the inaugural board of the DC Home Educator’s Association, Cheryl worked with the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education to establish and shape the current homeschooling regulation, Chapter 52, Title 5 of the DCMR, District of Columbia Home Schooling.
