Please join us for the next edition of Third Thursday – Crowell & Moring’s Labor and Employment Update, a webinar series dedicated to helping our clients stay on top of developing law and emerging compliance issues.

Employers often consider conducting background checks and/or credit checks in order to avoid liability for issues such as negligent hiring, unqualified employees, and workplace violence. However, recent changes in federal and state laws have made such screening increasingly difficult for employers. These changes include new state and local “Ban the Box” laws, Fair Chance hiring laws, and laws restricting or prohibiting credit screenings. Additionally, employers have faced a growing spate of class-action lawsuits over their screening practices for alleged discrimination and under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and similar state laws over alleged procedural defects in their processes.

During this webinar, we will discuss recent updates to the law on employee screening and address best practices to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risks to employers who conduct any form of criminal history or credit screening.
