This program will summarize the current status and plans of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). The Financial Stability Board under the G20 created the TCFD in 2015 with the objectives of developing a framework for companies and other organizations to develop more effective climate-related financial disclosures through their existing reporting processes. These disclosures provide information to investors, lenders, insurers, and other stakeholders. The work and recommendations of the Task Force will help companies understand what financial markets want from disclosure in order to measure and respond to climate change risks, and encourage firms to align their disclosures with investors’ needs. Although much work remains, the TCFD has already gained significant traction, with the support of 970 organizations with a total market cap of $11 trillion, including 454 financial companies responsible for assets of more than $132 trillion.

Mary Schapiro leads the TCFD Secretariat and is Vice-Chair for Global Public Policy and Special Advisor to the Founder and Chairman at Bloomberg LP. She was the Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2009-2012. Previously, she served in roles as CEO of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), Chair and CEO of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), and Chair of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission.  She has a Juris Doctor degree from the George Washington University Law School.
