Background - Practices (Details)

Crowell & Moring represents leading construction industry companies in complex, multimillion-dollar disputes and other legal matters. Over the years, we have advised prime contractors, owners, developers, design professionals and subcontractors in a wide variety of public and private construction matters, both nationally and regionally. We have particular experience advising construction clients on issues relating to government contracts and infrastructure projects, and one of our lawyers was recently named coordinator of the Construction Industry Ethics & Compliance Initiative (CIECI).

Our lawyers are leading proponents of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and many serve as arbitrators and mediators. We have participated in ADR proceedings before federal and state courts, boards of contract appeals, state administrative agencies, private judges, and the American Arbitration Association. A key element in our ability to provide effective dispute resolution counsel is our firsthand understanding of the interests of all players in the construction industry.

The firm's construction work includes counseling in the drafting, bidding and negotiation of contracts, bid protests and DBE issues, claims, environmental issues and performance problems. We have litigated cases involving claims arising from differing site conditions, defective specifications, constructive changes, acceleration, delay, suspension, inspection and acceptance, terminations, insurance coverage, and construction defects.
