The U.S. is “Back” on Climate: What’s Next?

May 18, 2021 • Webinar

Starts: 2:00 PM (EDT)
Ends: 3:00 PM (EDT)

Please join us for an interactive webinar on May 18th to analyze the outcomes of the Leaders’ Climate Summit in April and explore ways the Biden Administration may implement its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to reduce the economy’s greenhouse gas emissions.

The U.S. NDC is a commitment to set an economy-wide net greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of 50-52% by 2030, as compared to a 2005 baseline. While recognizing that meeting this ambitious target will require a rapid acceleration of existing trends, President Biden has argued the U.S. can meet the NDC through multiple different pathways – many of which have yet to be fully developed.

Attorneys and policy experts from Crowell & Moring’s Environment & Natural Resources Group and International consulting team will lead a discussion on President Biden’s climate policy commitments and how they may translate into regulatory, legislative and other policy impacts across different economic sectors. Topics discussed will include:

  • “Whole-of-government” approaches to climate policy - For example, how the United States is seeking to conserve more farmland as crop prices climb, potential changes to the Clean Air Act; the Administration’s proposed $174 billion investment “to win the electric vehicle (EV) market” in the American Jobs Plan, and how the courts will view these changes;
  • Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Standards – The role of corporate ESG and sustainability standards, opportunities for businesses, and risks of “greenwashing” accusations; and
  • Sustainable Climate Finance – How the U.S. government defines sustainable financing, how financial institutions are analyzing the new U.S. International Climate Finance Plan, and strategies and opportunities for mobilizing private financing.
We look forward to having you join us.
