Telenet Executive Vice President & General Counsel Joins Crowell & Moring

Brussels – May 19, 2020: Luc Machtelinckx, former executive vice president and general counsel of Telenet, has joined Crowell & Moring’s Brussels office as senior counsel in its Antitrust Group.

During his 35 years as in-house counsel, Machtelinckx advised on the legal and strategic aspects of mergers and acquisitions, negotiated national and international contracts, and managed disputes, litigation and intellectual property rights. He also handled general corporate and labor law matters, and public affairs activities. In his new role, Machtelinckx will advise corporate clients in the technology, media, telecommunications, oil, and chemical industries.

“We are extremely happy that Luc has joined us. He is a legal powerhouse,” said Thomas De Meese, co-managing partner of Crowell & Moring’s Brussels office. “Luc has always been at the cutting edge between the legal and business worlds. He understands better than anyone what a company needs in the way of legal support and how these needs can be met. This combination is of particular interest to our firm and fits within our philosophy, which puts client focus first.”

Machtelinckx worked previously on the legal team at Exxon and served as general counsel with BASF. He played an important role in building Telenet, which has evolved into one of the leading telecom companies in Belgium.

“My decision to join Crowell & Moring was an organic one. Through my role with Telenet, I have worked for more than 20 years with this firm,” said Machtelinckx. “They are working on some major matters that will influence the future development of companies in Belgium and society. I couldn’t help but want to be a part of that.”

Machtelinckx received his law degree, summa cum laude, from University of Antwerp.
