Senate Passes Whistleblower Protection (Again)

Publication | 07.30.15

Last week, the Senate passed legislation to extend whistleblower protections to employees that provide information to federal prosecutors related to criminal violations of antitrust law. As we reported last month, the Criminal Antitrust Anti-Retaliation Act of 2015 (CAARA) would protect covered employees from retaliation, and allow them to file complaints with the Secretary of Labor. Prior efforts to get CAARA through both chambers have been unsuccessful: the bill was first introduced in July 2012, but died in the Senate Judiciary Committee; the Senate subsequently passed a version of CAARA in November 2013, but the bill was never taken up by the House.
