Working Mother Names Crowell & Moring Among ‘Best Law Firms for Women’ for Seventh Consecutive Year

Firm’s efforts to recruit, retain, and advance women lawyers are recognized

Washington – August 8, 2018: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that it has been named by Working Mother for the seventh consecutive year as one of the “Best Law Firms for Women.” The firm is ranked among 60 U.S. law firms recognized for their commitment to retaining and promoting women lawyers; their policies in the advancement of women; and for implementing work-life balance initiatives.

“Our commitment to supporting the advancement of women lawyers is a top priority,” said Philip T. Inglima, chair of Crowell & Moring. “We are proud to be recognized again by Working Mother for our efforts to improve retention and professional development of our women lawyers. We are strongly committed to investing in our lawyers by providing them opportunities to pursue greater leadership and rewarding work that contributes to our clients and our communities.”

Working Mother highlighted the firm’s Women Attorneys’ Networka cross-office organization aimed atincreasing the retention and advancement of the firm’s 200 female attorneys. The group’s initiatives include providing mentorship opportunities; facilitating internal networking; engaging with firm leadership; and delivering programming that addresses topics relevant and often unique to women, including professional development, business development, promotion, and leadership opportunities.

The survey noted Crowell & Moring’s “balanced hours” arrangement, which allows lawyers to work reduced schedules without losing career opportunities. The firm was also recognized for providing one-on-one sponsorship to women.

The firm’s sponsorship program, the first of its kind among major law firms, was ranked first in the "Talent Development" category in The Financial Times’ “Most Innovative North American Law Firms 2015” special report. The report recognized the program, launched in 2012, as "a robust sponsorship initiative to address the glass ceiling for under-represented lawyers in the firm."

Crowell & Moring has a long history of women leadership. In 1995, the firm became the first major Washington-based law firm to elect a female chair, Rosemary Collyer, who later become a judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The firm’s current women leaders include Ellen Moran Dwyer, chair of the firm’s Executive Committee, and fellow Management Board members Cheryl A. Falvey and Jennifer S. Romano.
